A receptacle is a container — a thing, or a place, that you put other things into. It is a slightly stiff, careful word. A sign might say “place litter in the receptacle,” where a friend would just say bin or box. You meet it on labels, in science, and in formal notices. Though actually, Americans also use receptacle for a wall socket — the thing you push a plug into — because that socket “receives” the plug. use it too for the part of a flower that holds the other parts. Same picture: a holder. The meaning you need first is simply “a container.”
容器(較正式。美式英語也用來指牆上的插座,台灣說「插座」就好)
組成From Latin receptāculum (a container, a place of refuge), from receptāre / receptō (to receive, to harbour) — a repeated form of recipiō (re- “back” + capiō “to hold”) — plus -culum, a Latin ending for a tool or a place.
