When you reanimate someone or something, you give them new strength, or the energy to start again, after they have gone weak, quiet, or stuck. A tired team can be reanimated by a new coach. A half-dead plan can be reanimated by new money or a new idea. The old picture inside the word is “life again”: something that felt still starts to move. That is why stories also use it when a dead body is made to live again — films, games, old tales. Though actually, in news and careful writing you will meet the “new strength” use at least as often, and nobody means ghosts; they mean a town, a company, or a feeling that had stopped. It is not an everyday kitchen word. People sometimes stretch it to mean only “make more exciting,” which is a little loose: the core is that force comes back, not that the lights get brighter.
