    Ragweed is a North American plant. Its — the fine dust from the flowers — is a famous cause of hay fever: sneezing, itchy eyes, a blocked nose, often in late summer. The leaves look a bit torn or uneven, which is how the rag part of the name arose. It is a weed, not a garden flower people plant on purpose. In places where it grows a lot, news talks about ragweed season. It is not the same plant as , even though the names look like cousins and both start with rag.
