A quadruplet is one of four babies born to the same mother at the same time. We usually hear it in the plural: she had quadruplets — four babies together. One child in that group is a quadruplet. This is much rarer than twins (two) or triplets (three), so the word often turns up in news and in hospitals. Families, once people know the story, may just say the four of them. Though actually, music students also meet quadruplet for four notes squeezed into the time of three; that is the same shape of word doing a different job, and far fewer people need it. The baby sense is the one most will meet.
