To push-start a vehicle is to make the engine start by pushing the vehicle along, then putting it into gear so the wheels turn the engine. People do this when the battery is too weak to turn the engine by itself, or when a small or scooter will not fire. You need a slope, a few , or enough space to run behind and push; it does not work on every car, and modern cars with automatic gears often cannot be started this way. You can use it as a verb (They push-started the van) or as a noun (We gave it a push-start). It is everyday talk among drivers, not a formal word. It is not the same as a jump-start, which uses cables and another battery.
「push-start」是靠人推車，讓車子跑起來，再掛上檔位，讓輪子帶動引擎發動。大家通常在電瓶沒電、引擎轉不動，或小機車發不動的時候才會這樣做。它需要斜坡、幾個人幫忙，或足夠的空間跑著推。不是每台車都行，自動排檔的車通常不行。
