A push-bike is a bicycle — the kind you move with your legs, not with a motor. The name is mainly British, and a little informal. People say it when they want to be extra clear they do not mean a or a scooter: “I came on my push-bike.” You push the pedals (and, at a crossing, you may even push the bike along with your hands), so the first half of the word is a small joke as well as a description. In American English you almost never hear it; people just say bike or bicycle. Though actually, even in Britain, bike by itself often already means the pedal kind unless the talk is clearly about . Push-bike is the careful, contrast word. It is not a special machine — just an ordinary bicycle with a British nickname.
