Purposefully is how you do something when the aim is clear in the way you do it. You walk purposefully towards the door: your body already knows where it is going. You listen purposefully: you are not just waiting for your turn to speak. Careful teachers like a clean split: purposely = you meant to do it (it was not an accident); purposefully = you did it in a determined, aim-filled way. Though actually, a lot of native speakers use purposefully for both, and you will see that in print. In exams and careful writing, keep the split. In the wild, do not be surprised if the two wander into each other’s rooms.
