Your psyche is your inner mind — not only the thoughts you can say out loud, but the deeper feelings and habits that steer how you act. Writers use it when they talk about what a person is like underneath: fears, wishes, the parts you may not even see clearly yourself. It is a somewhat formal or literary word; in daily talk people say “mind” or “how they really feel.” Though actually, you also hear it in talk about “getting inside someone’s psyche,” meaning understanding what drives them. It is not a body part you can point to. The idea comes from an old Greek word for “soul.”
