When something is done provisionally, it is agreed or treated as true for now, but it is not final — it can still be changed. A university may provisionally accept you: you have a place unless later papers or scores fail. A room can be provisionally booked: they are holding it, but the date might move. It is a rather official word, common in forms, meetings, and careful email. In everyday talk people often say “for now” or “for the time being.” It is not a vague “maybe.” It is closer to “yes, with the understanding that we might undo this.”
