A proctor is the person who watches a room during a test, to make sure nobody cheats and that the rules are followed. In American English this is the usual school word; you also hear it as a verb: to proctor an exam means to be that . In British English, people more often say for the same job, though students still meet proctor in American tests and in some universities. Though actually, the word is older than exam halls: it was a worn-down form of a word for someone who acts for another person, which is why it still feels a little official, like a duty, not just “the teacher standing there.”
組成A shortened form of Middle English procatour / procutour, itself a contraction of procuratour — someone who looks after a matter for another person. It is a doublet of procurator and procurer, and it sits beside proxy; all of them come from that “act for someone” idea. The extra letters wore away.
