Someone who is pro-life is against abortion. They believe it is wrong, and they want the law to stop it, or to allow it only in a few hard cases. They use this word about themselves: it means “for life.” The matching word on the other side is pro-choice. Though actually, the two sides are fighting over the names as well as the law. People who support a woman’s right to have an abortion often will not say “pro-life,” because it makes their own side sound as if they are against life. They may say anti-abortion instead. People who oppose abortion almost never call themselves anti-choice. You will hear pro-life most in US , churches, and English-language news. In Taiwan, people more often say in Chinese that they are for or against abortion. It is a heavy opinion word, not a calm science word.
