A playroom is a room in a house (or sometimes a nursery or community centre) that is meant for children to play in. Toys, books, a small table, maybe a TV — the point is that play can stay messy there, so the sitting room does not fill with bricks. It is an ordinary home word, a little more middle-class and house-sized than ‘the kids’ room’, which might also be a bedroom. A playroom is not a classroom and not a playground outdoors. In small flats people often have no separate playroom; the living room does the job.
