    A plateful is all the food that is sitting on one plate — as much as that plate holds. If you eat a plateful of rice, you ate the amount that would fill a plate, or everything that was on it. It is a , spoken kind of word, the same pattern as or handful: the dish plus -ful to mean a full amount. People use it when they talk about helpings and hunger, not in careful formal writing. You might hear two platefuls when someone went back for more. It does not mean a special kind of plate.
