A person who, mainly in the 1800s, claimed they could read your character and talents by feeling the bumps on your skull. For a while this was a real job, with charts of the head and paying customers. Science later showed it does not work; today nobody serious treats it as medicine. You meet the word in history, museums, and stories that smile at old “science”. A phrenologist was the person; phrenology was the system they believed in.
