1. 1

Petit is a French word for 'small,' but in English it almost never stands alone — you meet it stuck inside a few borrowed phrases. A 'petit jury' is a small, regular trial jury (as opposed to a 'grand jury'). 'Petit larceny' is old legal language for a small, minor theft. A 'petit four' is a tiny, fancy cake, small enough to eat in one or two bites. Because it is French, some people say it closer to 'puh-TEE,' without a hard final 't.'

    法文借詞,意思是「小」,用於特定片語,如小型竊盜案 petit larceny、迷你法式小點心 petit four
