If a person, a song, a speech, or an act is patriotic, it has or shows a strong love of country. A patriotic song makes that love heard; a patriotic act does something for the country, not only feels something in private.
It usually sounds like praise. Though actually, one person’s patriotic display can feel warm to them and — even — to someone standing next to them, especially when it is used to say “if you do not join in, you do not belong.” The word itself does not settle that argument. It only says: this is about love of country, shown on the outside.
Keep the family clear: a patriot (person) does patriotic (adjective) things because of patriotism (the feeling / the idea).
