    A paperweight is a small heavy object you put on top of loose papers so the wind, a fan, or a careless sleeve does not blow them away. Many are made of glass, stone, or metal, and some are pretty things people collect and keep on a desk even when there is no wind. The paper is the sheets on the desk; the weight is the heaviness that holds them down. It is not a weight for measuring paper. It is also not a : a pinches pages together, while a paperweight just sits on them.
