A simple musical instrument: a row of short tubes, usually wood or bamboo, each a different length, tied side by side. You do not put them in your mouth like a recorder. You blow across the open tops, the way you blow across a bottle top. Longer tubes give lower notes; shorter ones give higher notes. People have made them in many countries. In old Greek stories they belong to Pan, a nature god who looked after shepherds and wild places. Today you may hear them in folk music, or see them in a school music book. Shops sometimes say pan flute; though actually, players often use more exact names for the set they hold.
