To overvalue something is to believe, or to say, that it is worth more or matters more than it really does. You can overvalue a gift because of who gave it, overvalue a brand, overvalue your own work. It is a judgement about worth and importance, not only about guessing a number. The opposite idea is undervalue. The usual noun for the act is , not overvalue, though you may meet overvalue as a noun in money writing. Though actually, people mix it with overestimate. Overestimate is often about a number or a size you guessed too high. Overvalue has more of the heart in it — you have given the thing too much weight.
