Overvaluation is a noun: the act, or the state, of treating something as worth more — or as more important — than it really is. You hear it most in money talk, the overvaluation of a company, a house, a coin, but it also fits pride: the overvaluation of one exam, or of your own idea. It names the mistake. The verb is . Though actually, in the newspaper it often sounds cold and technical, as if only bankers do it. Ordinary people do it every time they pay extra because a thing is famous, or because they love it too much to see it clearly.
