An oilfield is a stretch of land, or a stretch of sea, with oil under it. It is not one hole in the ground. Under that area there is a lot of oil, and people put up many wells and to bring it up. You can have an oilfield in a desert, or an offshore oilfield out at sea, with platforms standing in the water. In everyday English you will also see oil field as two words; they mean the same thing. Do not mix it up with an oil well: the well is one pipe going down; the field is the whole area.
