An obstetrician is a doctor with special training in pregnancy and birth. In many hospitals the same person is also a gynecologist, so you will hear OB/GYN, but the obstetrician part is specifically about bringing the baby into the world and looking after the mother then. This is a medical doctor, not a midwife. A midwife is trained for birth too, though actually the two often work as a team, and the obstetrician is the one who steps in when the birth is or surgery is needed. It is a formal job title; families often just say the doctor who delivered the baby.
