A nonconformist is不隨俗的人指的是 a person who will not follow the usual ways of thinking or behaving in their group不願意照著自己團體裡一般想法或行為方式走的人。They dress differently他們穿著跟別人不一樣, ask different questions問不一樣的問題, or refuse a rule that everyone else treats as obvious或是拒絕遵守大家都覺得理所當然的規定。
We use it as a noun (she is a nonconformist) and as an adjective (a nonconformist idea). In ordinary modern English this is the social meaning — not, first of all, a church word.
We use it as a noun我們可以把它當名詞用 (she is a nonconformist她是個特立獨行的人) and as an adjective也可以當形容詞用 (a nonconformist idea一個特立獨行的想法)。In ordinary modern English在現代日常英文裡 this is the social meaning這是指社會層面的意思——not, first of all, a church word而不是先指教會方面的詞。
