A conformist goes along with the group. They dress, talk, and think in the usual way because standing out feels unsafe, or because they do not want the trouble of being different. The word is often a little : it suggests the person is copying, not choosing. It can also describe a place that pushes everyone to be the same (a conformist school). As a noun it is the person; as an adjective it is that style of thinking. Though actually, the older English story is religious: a Conformist followed the official church in England, and a would not. Today's school use has mostly left the church behind and kept the 'goes along with the group' idea. People who like to be different sometimes wear this word as an insult; people who value getting along may hear it as too sharp.
