A newswoman is a woman who news or reports it for a newspaper, radio, or television. It sits next to newsman, the older word for a man in the same job. Many people now just say journalist or reporter for everyone, so they do not mark the job as male or female — though actually you will still hear newswoman, especially in American English, when the speaker wants to say she is a woman. It is not a rude word. A newswoman may be out with a microphone, or at a desk writing; she is not only the person who reads the news in the studio.
