Nether means lower, under, the part that sits down below. Almost nobody uses it in ordinary talk except as a joke or in stories. The phrase people still know is the nether regions: a polite, slightly silly way to talk about the body parts between the legs, or, in older writing, a dark world far underneath. In games, a lot of young people meet the word in the Nether — a hot, dangerous lower world. English once used nether the way we now use lower; today it feels and a bit funny. You would not say the nether shelf in a shop.
下方的、底下的(書面、常帶幽默。「the nether regions」委婉指下體;遊戲裡的 the Nether 是底下的異界)
組成From Old English niþera, “lower, under,” from a Germanic word for “down,” ultimately from an old Indo-European root meaning “in, down.” Dutch neder and German nieder are cousins, not English copies.
