A nestling is a very young bird that is still in the nest and cannot fly yet. Its feathers may still be wisps, and it depends on the parent birds to bring food. If you see a tiny bird that cannot hop or fly, and it belongs in a nest, that is a nestling.
A nestling雛鳥 is是 a very young bird一種非常年幼的鳥 that is still in the nest還待在巢裡 and cannot fly yet還不會飛。Its feathers它的羽毛 may still be wisps可能還只是一絲絲的絨毛, and it depends on the parent birds to bring food而且要靠親鳥叼食物來餵。If you see如果你看到 a tiny bird一隻很小的鳥 that cannot hop or fly不會跳也不會飛, and it belongs in a nest而且是待在巢裡的, that is a nestling那就是雛鳥。
Though actually, English has a small family of “young bird” words, and they are not the same.
Though actually不過其實, English has a small family of "young bird" words英文裡有一小組「幼鳥」相關的詞, and they are not the same但它們並不一樣。
A chick is a broad, everyday word for a baby bird. A nestling is specifically too young to leave the nest. A fledgling has grown flying feathers and is learning to fly — often out of the nest, still . People also stretch fledgling to mean “new and not yet skilled” (a fledgling company); nestling does not really do that job.
A chick chick(小雞/雛鳥通稱) is是 a broad, everyday word一個廣泛、日常的用詞 for a baby bird用來指小鳥寶寶。A nestling而 nestling(雛鳥) is specifically則專指 too young to leave the nest還太小、離不開巢的鳥。A fledgling fledgling(離巢幼鳥) has grown flying feathers已經長出飛羽 and is learning to fly正在學飛 — often out of the nest通常已經離開巢 still clumsy但還笨手笨腳的。People also stretch fledgling人們也把 fledgling 延伸使用 to mean "new and not yet skilled"意思是「剛起步、還不熟練」 (a fledgling company)(例如 a fledgling company 新創公司); nestling does not really do that job但 nestling 不太這樣用。
There is another nestling that is not a bird at all: the -ing form of the verb nestle, meaning sitting or lying in a way, like a village nestling in a valley. Same spelling, different build: that one is nestle + -ing, not nest + -ling. The bird is the noun you are learning here.
There is另外還有 another nestling一個 nestling that is not a bird at all完全跟鳥無關: the -ing form of the verb nestle是動詞 nestle 的 -ing 形式, meaning sitting or lying in a cosy way意思是舒適地坐著或躺著, like a village nestling in a valley就像 a village nestling in a valley(一座依偎在山谷裡的村莊)。Same spelling拼法相同, different build組成卻不同: that one is那個字是 nestle + -ing nestle 加 -ing, not nest + -ling而不是 nest 加 -ling。The bird表示鳥的那個 is the noun才是你在這裡要學的名詞。
組成For the young bird: nest + -ling. The ending -ling means “a small or young one,” as in duckling. The other nestling (the cosy sitting) comes from nestle + -ing, a different cut of the same letters.
