A narrow-minded person will not accept ideas, ways of living, or opinions that are new or different from their own. Their mind is "narrow" like a thin path: only one kind of thought can walk there. We use the word to criticise. It is not about a thin face or a small head — though actually, sometimes hear narrow and picture a body. It is about how little welcome a person gives to other people's ways. You can call a comment, a rule, or a whole town narrow-minded, not only a person. It is a bit formal and a bit sharp; saying it to someone's face will hurt. The opposite people reach for is open-minded.
