When you are open-minded, you are willing to listen to other people’s ideas and opinions, and you may even change your mind if they make sense. You do not shut an idea out just because it is new or not yours. People use this as praise — teachers, parents, and job like an open-minded person. Though actually, speakers stretch it a little: someone who will try new food, new art, or a new way of living may also be called open-minded, not only someone who listens to an argument. It does not mean you agree with everyone, and it does not mean you have no opinions of your own. You can still say no and be open-minded, as long as you gave the other side a fair hearing. The usual opposites are closed-minded and narrow-minded. Everyday English; kind, not stiff.
