Think of Mr as a small label you put in front of a man's name to keep a polite distance: Mr Chen, Mr David Lin. You are not saying anything about him — you are marking that this is a name being used , not casually. Because it is such a plain, neutral label, English then borrows it for play: stick Mr in front of a quality instead of a family name, and you have invented a character — Mr Right, Mr Big, Mr Clean.
