If something is motionless, it is not moving at all — not a little, not even the small movements living bodies usually make. A motionless person may be asleep, hiding, in shock, or holding still on purpose; a motionless sea has no you can see. It is stronger than still. Still can mean “quiet” or “not moving much”; motionless is the complete stop. You will meet it in stories, news, and film more than in chat. After a verb of position it is very natural: he stood motionless, she lay motionless. Though actually, almost nothing in the real world is perfectly motionless — we still use the word when movement is so small we do not count it.
