You can think of a soft yellow ball of flower, no bigger than a pea, growing in thick clusters until a whole changes colour. Two things travel out from that picture: the plant that carries the flower, and the colour itself, which later gave its name to a pale yellow-orange drink in a glass.

From the word’s history
The name comes from New Latin mimosa, from Latin mimus, meaning a mime or actor. It was given to Mimosa pudica because its leaves shrink back when touched, as if imitating a movement. The cocktail was later named after the bright yellow flowers of Acacia dealbata.
這個名字來自新拉丁文 mimosa，再往前是拉丁文 mimus（默劇演員）。當初這樣叫，是因為含羞草的葉子一碰就縮回去，像在模仿動作。後來那杯調酒，則是照 Acacia dealbata 那種亮黃色的花命名的。所以一個字裡同時藏著「會動的葉子」和「亮黃的花」兩個理由。
