A millwheel is the large wheel of a watermill. Water hits the or fills the buckets, the wheel turns, and that turning power runs the stones or machines inside. You may also see mill-wheel or mill wheel written as two words. Though actually, not every mill still uses a big wooden wheel like this — some use a modern turbine — but millwheel is the picture most people keep: a wheel on the side of an old mill, turning in a stream.
水車輪
組成mill + wheel. From Middle English milnewhel, from Old English mylenhwēol, the same two pieces joined long ago.
