Meltingly is how someone looks or speaks when that look or voice makes you feel pity or love. He may smile meltingly; she may speak meltingly. It is the adverb for the same soft, heart-opening quality as a melting look. You will meet it in novels more than in class talk. Food writers also use it (“meltingly tender”), but that is another stretch; this entry is the look and the voice.
