Machine-readable means the information is in a form a computer can take in and use, without a person typing it all again. A barcode, a QR code, the strip at the bottom of a passport photo page, or a clean data file can be machine-readable. An ordinary paragraph of English on paper is for human eyes. Though actually, readable here does not mean “easy for you to read.” A machine-readable file can look like a mess on the screen and still be perfect for a computer. People pair it with human-readable: one is for machines, one is for us.
