Loungewear is soft, comfortable clothing you wear when you are at home and not going out to work — things like loose trousers, a hoodie, a matching set you can sit around in. Shops use it as a name for a kind of clothes: not exactly, and not sports kit, but clothes that look tidy enough for the sofa, a video call, or popping out for milk. You put loungewear on when you want to feel at ease. Though actually, companies stretch the word a lot. Some ‘loungewear’ is just ordinary casual clothes with a nicer label, and some of it is smart enough that people wear it outside. It is a fairly new shopping word, informal, and you meet it on labels, in , and in magazines more than in old books. It does not mean clothes you wear only in a hotel lounge. It means clothes for a slow, at-home kind of day.
居家服、居家休閒服(不是直譯「客廳穿的衣服」;店家常用這個字指可在家放鬆、有時也能出門的套裝)
組成lounge (relaxing, at ease, as in a lounge) + -wear (clothes of a certain kind, the same piece as in swimwear). Built as lounge + -wear.

loungewearnoun
- 1
Loose clothing in which one can lounge.
- “I love that loungewear has become a prevailing new category,” said Barbara Lippert, 65, a writer. “During the worst part of the pandemic even jeans seemed like an overreach, requiring that complex button and zipper action. And cardigans were too much work.”
