If you feel listless, you have no energy and no wish to do anything. You are not just tired after sport: you cannot make yourself start, and even things you usually like feel dull. People use it for a slow, empty tiredness — after illness, in heavy heat, when you are sad, or when a long afternoon has no point. It is a quiet, slightly word; a doctor or a novel might say someone looks listless, while a friend might just say they feel blah. Though actually, the first half is not the list you write shopping on. An old list meant “wish” or “desire,” so listless is “without wish.”
