If something is lifelong, it runs through a person’s whole life — or at least it feels that long. A lifelong friend is someone you have kept for most of your years. A lifelong habit is one you never really drop. It sits before a noun: lifelong dream, lifelong , lifelong illness. It feels warmer than permanent: people reach for it with love, loyalty, learning, and also with harm that never quite leaves. Though actually, we often say it even when the thing did not start at birth — a lifelong Liverpool fan may have fallen for the club at ten. It is everyday English, a little , fine in both talk and writing.

由 life 加 -long 組成。
組成From life + -long. The -long here is the same family as long (how much time something lasts), from Old English lang. So lifelong is ‘as long as a life’.
