A house, flat, or room that someone can rent. This is the British English word for a place that is offered for rent, often for a short stay.

From Middle English leten, from Old English lǣtan 'to allow, let go, leave, rent'.

Behind this noun sits the verb let in its 'let someone use your property for money' sense. A letting is the thing that comes out of that: a house, flat, or room standing ready with a price on it, waiting for a tenant. It is British English, and it often points at short-stay places — a holiday letting by the sea.
