1. 1

A keyholder is the person who is officially trusted with the key to a place — an office, a shop, a factory, a school. If the alarm goes off at night, the police or the security company call the keyholder, because that person can open the door and is on the list as responsible. It is a role, not just anyone who happens to have a key in their pocket. In a small shop the owner is often the keyholder; in a bigger building it may be a named staff member who keeps the keys and must come out if something is wrong.
