The interviewer is the person who asks the questions in an interview. In a job meeting that is often someone from the company; on television or in a newspaper it is the journalist. The ending -er marks the person who does the action. It is an ordinary, useful word, a little more official than just saying “the person asking.” A good interviewer, people say, listens as much as they talk — though actually a lot of interviewers talk rather a lot.
