Someone who is incorrigible is “bad” in a way that cannot be changed or trained out of them — they will keep doing it. Though actually, we often say it with a smile, not as a real attack: an incorrigible joker, an incorrigible flirt, an incorrigible gossip. The habit is familiar, and the harm is usually small. Used straight, without humour, it is quite harsh (an incorrigible liar). You use it about people, and sometimes pets or habits, not about a wrong answer in a . It looks like a cold, formal word, but in speech it often comes out warm or teasing — the way you talk about someone you already know will never sit still.
組成From Latin incorrigibilis, “not to be corrected”: in- (“not”) + corrigere (“to correct”) + -ibilis (“-able”). Same as in- + corrigible (able to be corrected).
