If something happens imperceptibly, it happens in such a small or slow way that you do not notice it while it is going on. The room grew imperceptibly darker. She had imperceptibly moved closer. Same idea as the adjective , now sitting on a verb. It loves verbs of change: grow, fade, shift, move, become. Though actually, in everyday talk people say without anyone noticing, or so slowly you didn't see it. This -ly form lives in stories and careful prose more than in chat. The change is real; you only clock it later, when you look back.
