A hypo is a short, informal name for a hypodermic: the needle-and-syringe used to put medicine under the skin, or the shot itself. Nurses and doctors say it; ordinary people more often just say needle, jab, or shot. You can also use it as a verb: to hypo someone is to give them that kind of injection. Though actually, hypo is a of more than one medical word that starts with hypo- (under), so in a lab or a hospital the same short form can point at other things — but this entry is the needle. It feels casual and workplace-y, not like a word you would put in a formal report.
