Hypnotherapy is the use of hypnosis to treat a problem, not to entertain. In a session, a person is guided into a calm, highly focused state — a bit like a deep — and the therapist uses that state to help with pain, worry, habits, or feelings that stay stuck in ordinary talk. It is still talking treatment; the hypnosis is a tool inside the treatment. Though actually, people who study this do not all agree how much the special state itself does, versus the talking, the hope, and the trust in the therapist. It is not a magic sleep, and it is not someone taking over your mind. You stay able to come back; you are not under a spell in the storybook sense.
