Homeopathic is the adjective for that system of medicine: treating a disease with an extremely small amount of a substance that can cause the same signs. You hear homeopathic remedy, homeopathic drops, a homeopathic doctor (a homeopath). It is a specialist word; you see it on little bottles in some pharmacies, and in arguments about whether the treatment works. People also stretch it. Because the doses are famous for being tiny, someone may joke that a change was “homeopathic” — meaning ridiculously small, almost nothing. That wink still sits on the medical idea; it is not a second unrelated meaning. It has nothing to do with “home” the house, even though it looks as if it might.
