A hillside is the side of a hill — the face that goes up, not the flat top and not the land around the bottom. Houses, farms, trees, and are often described as being on the hillside. It is an ordinary, slightly word; you hear it in the news and in everyday description. It does not mean the whole hill, and it does not mean the peak. Though actually, people sometimes say on the hillside when they only mean “somewhere on that hill,” not a careful map-point.
