    A hilltop is the top of a hill — the highest part. A house, a temple, a tree, or a view can be on the hilltop. The one-word form often names a kind of place (a hilltop village); the top of the hill means the same thing in looser talk. It is a simple, everyday compound. It is not the slope, and it is not usually a mountain peak — that is more often a or a summit — though people do stretch it a little for any high point on a hill.
