1. 1

The haves are the people who have money, land, or an easy life — the rich side of a country or a group. You almost always say the haves, with the, and you almost always set them against the , the people who have little. It is a newspaper and conversation word, a little rhetorical: people reach for it when they want to talk about , not when they are filling in a form. It is simply a noun made from the verb have: the people who “have.” You do not use it for one person (not a have); the whole point is the group.

    有錢人(幾乎總是跟 the have-nots「窮人」對舉)
