    Half-time is the short rest in the middle of a game that is played in two halves, like football or basketball. The whistle goes, players walk off, coaches talk, the crowd buys drinks — then the second half starts. People also use it as an adjective: the half-time score is the score at that break; a half-time show is the entertainment in the middle (famous at some American football games). You will hear “at half-time” constantly in sports talk; it is ordinary, not fancy. Though actually, it is easy to hear the same pieces and think of something else. “Half the time” means “on about half of the occasions” (“Half the time I forget my keys”). That is not this word. And half-time is not half-term, which is a British school holiday.
